A landmark decision from the Supreme Court ruled financial claims can be made against ex-partners 20 years after divorce and such cases should go before a Family Court.
Delivering the ruling, Lord Wilson said the Court must have regard “to the contribution of each party to the welfare family, including by looking after the home or caring for the family”.
Divorcing couples who want protection from such claims should seek an order from the Court during the divorce process is granted stating both parties agree that there will be no further financial claims.
